The reason for the focus and efforts in democracy and governance is that it is the surest strategy to poverty reduction. This is aimed at citizen’s participation in governance as empowered citizens, who are networked and speaking with one voice, have the potential to serve as powerful agent who have an impact on policy making and enforcement of existing policies.
FOFA helps communities; partners and individuals identify issues of common concern, plan effective interaction with legislators or target decision-makers who have the power to change policies from the local communities to the national level for the improvement of the life of citizens.
FOFA has implemented the following projects under the Democracy and Governance area.
- Capacity building of National Assembly staff committee on Agriculture to support legislators to achieve MDGS/NEEDS goals of poverty reduction, with grants from National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) 2007.
- Capacity building of People and Representation to initiate and strengthen the engagement of constituency members with their representatives at all levels for poverty reduction with support from National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) 2008.
